Marlena Hadas

Daughter of Krzystof and Danuta Hadas

My name is Marlena Hadas and I am honored to participate in the 78th annual White and Red Ball on March 4, 2017. This ball is hosted by the Legion of Young Polish Women each year which raises funds that are distributed back into the Polish-American community throughout the Chicagoland area. The legion also supports Polish-American college students, groups, and organizations that work on behalf of making the community a greater place.

I am a Junior at Jones College Prep High School in downtown Chicago. I have been on the High Honor roll all four years. I believe that it is important to stay active so I take part in several extracurricular activities in school and beyond. For example, I participate on the Math team, Polish club, and Volleyball team. I am also planning my school’s first international day/night event, where students learn about cultures from all around the world.

Polish culture is extremely important to me.  For several years, I have been a dancer with Wici, a Polish folklore dance ensemble.  In the dance ensemble, we travel every summer to international festivals all around the world.  I also have been attending Polish school for the past eleven years. I have participated in many contests and debates about the Polish culture and history during my time at school. This is my final year of Polish school, and I am currently preparing for the Polish language certification exam in May.  I greatly enjoy traveling to Poland with my family, especially to Tarnow, my family’s home town.
